Frank Schaeffer: Trashes Father to Support Obama and Defend Wright!
Evidently, Frank Schaeffer has signed on as a procurer for Senator Obama and gets attention by trashing his own father in a recent newspaper column! Schaeffer said that his famous father was worse than Jeremiah Wright, Obama’s infamous pastor! We are told that Wright is “mild” when compared to the “anti-American” pronouncements of Frank’s father! What garbage!

In a column of mine a few months ago, I wrote, “While I did not agree with all Dr. Schaeffer’s theological positions, I had enormous respect for his convictions, commitment, and courage. Frank, when discussing his dad, seems immature, impulsive, and indignant. Following his father’s death in 1984, Frankie (as he was known) joined the Greek Orthodox Church which he says, ‘embraces paradox and mystery.’ It also embraces error since it is a denomination of salvation by works. An unkind Roman Catholic wag said that it is a denomination for those who failed Latin.”
Frank apparently has major spiritual and emotional problems and he should solve them before he pontificates on America’s political scene, especially using his deceased father as an excuse to lend credibility to a radical senator who wants to President of the U.S. but who wouldn’t get my vote to sit on a small-town school board.
To compare godly Francis Schaeffer to potty-mouthed Jeremiah Wright is close to blasphemy in my opinion. Schaeffer was a highly committed man who tried to stay true to the Scripture while Wright is a demagogue, with a dirty mouth (and mind) who hates America and the white race. He is buddies with one of the worst racists in the world, nut case Louis Farrakhan, dictatorial head of the Nation of Islam, and even featured him in his church newsmagazine and gave him an award! Farrakhan says that Judaism is a “gutter religion” and is known for his bigotry, babbling, bombast, and blasphemy. And Obama’s pastor gives this black thug an award! All persons of character and spiritual discernment in Wright’s church should leave the church in total disgust after demanding the church discipline “former pastor” Wright. Obama is still there and refuses to disown him.

Impossible scenario: suppose Hillary Clinton were a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Virginia and the church featured David Duke in one of their televised services. Does any sane (and honest) person believe that Obama would not demand that she change her membership?
Pastor Wright, a jerk in clerical robes, has asked God to damn America and blames America for the Muslim attack on September 11, 2001! He takes positions that would make Marx, Lenin, and Stalin stand up and cheer. He is anti Israel, pro Islam, and spouts with missionary zeal the zany Black Liberation Theology, and Frank Schaeffer thinks his dad was worse than Wright! Frank is not only a spoiled brat, he is sick in my opinion.
Frank regrets the part he played in getting Christians involved in political battles that morphed into the so-called religious right, but I think Frank is regretting too much, for in my opinion he was not that important. If his last name had been Jones, he would probably have driven influential people to protest rallies or cleaned up after rallies. That may be part of his problem. He is half the man his father was!
Whatever Schaeffer’s many problems, his accusations against his father are not legitimate criticisms but complements! Frank wrote, "Every Sunday thousands of right-wing white preachers (following in my father's footsteps) rail against America's sins from tens of thousands of pulpits. [I only wish this were true.] They tell us that America is complicit in the 'murder of the unborn,' has become 'Sodom' by coddling gays, and that our public schools are sinful places full of evolutionists and sex educators hell-bent on corrupting children." Does any informed, intelligent person disagree with that statement? Frank said it better than I! Furthermore, there is a big difference in his dad and others pointing out and preaching against the sins of the nation as opposed to Wright calling on God to damn the nation.
Frank blasts his father for taking the position that there may be a time in the U.S. when armed citizens might be called upon to resist the government and even produce another American Revolution! His father did make the following statement in his Christian Manifesto: “There does come a time when force, even physical force, is appropriate. The Christian is not to take the law into his own hands and become a law unto himself. But when all avenues of flight and protest have closed, force in the defensive posture is appropriate.” Maybe Frank does not know that Thomas Jefferson and other patriots taught that there could come a time in America where government oppression is so great and liberty is only a memory that another revolution would be necessary. After all, if the first revolution can be defended, can't others?
Jefferson wrote, “The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions that I wish it to be always kept alive. It will often be exercised when wrong, but better so than not to be exercised at all.” He also declared, “And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to the facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure.”
As I think of Jefferson’s reference to “manure” I think of the sputtering of Frank Schaeffer as he whines about his father. Os Guinness who lived with the Schaeffers for three years and was Frank’s best man at his wedding, characterizes him as being spoiled because of an early illness and being the youngest child. Frank was called “Little Napoleon” and boasted that he could twist his parents around his little finger. Alas, that is one failure of Frances Schaeffer that I would agree with. Evidently Dr. Schaeffer was spooked by Spock and his spoiled, thankless, thoughtless son is a result. So sad.
How pathetic to see Francis Schaeffer’s son come to the aid of a radical, left-wing preacher and an undeserving presidential candidate at the expense of his godly father. Double sad.

Often people ask me what I do to maintain good health, and I never have time to go into detail. Today, I will at least provide the general outline of my decisions. None was planned, by the way, and it happened over many years.

This fits with what I read (in 1982 approxiamtely) of his father's strong anti-abortion rhetoric. This was not unusual for someone writing in the 1980s. ... It reflects, ISTM, an overly-critical attitude, on your part, against Frank Schaeffer. [7] That is a statement contrary to fact -- on what basis do you make this statement, sir, that the Greek Orthodox Church is in any kind of doctrinal error on anything? [8] Secondly, the Orthodox Church is not a "denomination." The term "denomination" was unknown in Christianity, that is, in the true Church, until after the time of the Protestant Reformation, and then, it was coined in the Protestant denominations, which are not churches. There is only one Church. Scripture nowhere refers to the term "denomination." While we, as fallible human beings (and I am surely one of them!) cannot state with certainty where the Church is not, the one Church founded by our LORD GOD and Saviour JESUS CHRIST (in Saint Matthew 16:18) is the Orthodox Church. [9] This is simply untrue! Constantine Platis (2000) writes: "Protestant statement "We are saved by faith only. (Frequently a Protestant [on finding out we are Orthodox] will mention this [and usually nothing else] to determine "which side we are on." Another way of testing us is to ask us, "Which saves, "faith," or "faith plus works"?") "An Orthodox answer "For us to be saved, faith is required (Heb. 11:6), but nowhere does the Bible say that salvation comes through faith only. The word "only" is not there, even though Luther added it in his translation of the Bible, after the word "faith" in the verse "For we reckon a man is justifie by faith, without works of the Law" (Rom. 3:28). Instead of conforming his theology to the Bible, Luther preferred to alter the Bible. "The Protestant's decision to combat false Roman Catholic teachings (such as indulgences and purgatory) by inventing this "faith only" doctrine [A], and the Protestants' determination to quote Bible verses that appear to say this (while they misinterpret, or [like Luther] even reject sections of the Bible that flatly contradict "faith only") show the state of blindness to which the Western denominations have come since the abandonment of Orthodoxy in the western European countries 900 years ago. Think as you will, if you think, of Senator Barack Obama as an allegedly "undeserving [sic] presidential candidate", but please, sir, don't let ethnicities cloud your judgment! Please do not reject Senator Obama merely by guilt by association with the extremist, racist views of one man, Rev. Wright, who Senator Obama in no way has defended, and, indeed, he has rejected any association with Rev. Wright! Indeed, Senator Obama has courageously and strongly denounced the Rev. Wright's statements, as well he should! Please don't reject Senator Obama because of Rev. Wright, or because you "don't like" Frank Schaeffer! God bless America!
