I am a college senior and used this article as a reference for evidence of King’s troubled character in one of my essays for my communications class. This was for extra credit work.

The purpose of the assignment was to study King’s, “I Have a Dream Speech” and answer the question, “How does he establish credibility?”

My argument was that to his audience at the time he was perceived to have credibility but to a modern audience he lacks all credibility due to what we now know about him. My point was mainly based on the plagiarism in his dissertation but I also mentioned his sexually deviant behavior as outlined in your article.

Just like you I wanted to be “fair, balanced, and accurate!”

I have known of this information for quite sometime now, but where was this information in the early 1980’s when I wrote a term paper on King?

It was not in any books, encyclopedias, etc. I now understand why.

Thank Jesus the info is out now! My child was singing a nostalgic MLK peace song in school in celebration of the holiday here in CA and I almost vomited when I heard it at pickup time. I substituted a few words of the song in my head with “cheater, adulterer, womanizer.”

I don’t respect anyone who breaks his marriage vows. He is just disgusting and I wish this holiday was given to someone else who represented the black rights movement who wasn’t’ so wholly reprehensible in his personal life.

I had never heard of any of these allegations, yay for the liberal education system in America! Now I’m intrigued and going to dig deeper into a person who I had thought wasn’t worth investigating, who I thought had been shown to be exactly what I was always told he was. Thank you for sharing this and I’m ready to get under the skin of my liberal “friends” with this little tidbit.
